A manual test stand is a test frame for force measurements that is operated by hand via a lever or handwheel. A universal testing machine moves a crosshead by motor while measuring force and travel. It is used to carry out tension and compression tests.
DISA AG Sarnen supplies Mark-10 manual test stands up to 5 kN and universal testing machines from Mark-10, Barrus, Starrett and 3R up to 500 kN. This guide shows the criteria for your choice. You will find all models in the categories Manual test bench and Universal testing machine.
Mark-10 manual test stands
Universal testing machines
Four criteria for your choice
1. Operation
- Manual test stand: by hand via lever or handwheel
- According to the manufacturer, the lever-operated ES10, TSB100 and TSA750 are suitable for fast tests, the ES20 with handwheel for more precise tests with more consistent results
- Universal testing machine: crosshead moved by motor
2. Test force
- Manual test stands: up to 150 N (ES05), 500 N, 1 kN, 3.75 kN and 5 kN
- Mark-10 F series: up to 2.2 kN or 6.7 kN
- Starrett: MMS up to 5 kN, FMD and MMD up to 50 kN
- 3R SYNTAX: 12 kN or 25 kN
- Barrus: Grey up to 100 kN, RED up to 500 kN
3. Measuring travel
- Optional digital travel measurement is available for ES30, TSA750, TSB100, TSC1000 and TSF, so force and travel can be recorded together
- Universal testing machines measure force and travel
4. Test types and software
- Mark-10 F series: break testing, cycle testing, testing to a specific load or distance, load holding and average force, among others
- Starrett MMS: also materials tests such as modulus of elasticity, tensile strength and elongation
- Software: EasyMESUR, IntelliMESUR, Starrett L2Plus and L3
Calibration and service in Sarnen
Our calibration laboratory in Sarnen is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 (SCS 0083) and calibrates force gauges, sensors and test stands. We calibrate force with an SCS certificate up to 50 kN and with a factory report up to 200 kN. As the European service center of Mark-10, we also handle repairs.
Frequently asked questions
Single or dual column machine?
The Barrus RED is available as a single column machine from 5 N to 5 kN and as a dual column machine from 5 N to 500 kN. The 3R SYNTAX 12 and SYNTAX 25 are dual column machines with a frame stiffness of 20 kN/mm and 150 kN/mm respectively.
How accurate are the universal testing machines?
Depending on the version, Barrus RED measures with ±0.5% or ±1%, Barrus Grey with up to 0.5%. The 3R SYNTAX 12 and SYNTAX 25 achieve accuracy class 1. Exact values are given in the data sheet of each model.
Which tests are manual test stands used for?
For example for switch contact and spring tests (ES05), tension and compression tests on small samples (ES10, ES20), spring tests, destructive tests and product integrity tests (TSF).
