What is a universal testing machine?

A universal testing machine (also called a tensile tester or materials testing machine) moves a crosshead by motor while measuring force and travel. It is used to carry out tension and compression tests.

Which universal testing machines does DISA offer?

From Mark-10 the F series with EasyMESUR or IntelliMESUR (F105, F305, F505, F505H and F755, F755S, F1505, F1505S). From Barrus the RED (single and dual column) and Grey series. From Starrett the MMS, FMD and MMD series. From 3R the SYNTAX 12 and SYNTAX 25. More in our test stand or universal testing machine guide.

Which test forces are possible?

Mark-10 F105 to F505H up to 2.2 kN, F755 to F1505S up to 6.7 kN. Starrett MMS up to 5 kN, FMD and MMD up to 50 kN. 3R SYNTAX 12 and 25 with 12 kN and 25 kN. Barrus Grey up to 100 kN. Barrus RED as a single column machine from 5 N to 5 kN, as a dual column machine from 5 N to 500 kN.

Which tests can be performed?

The Mark-10 F series is designed for break testing, cycle testing, testing to a specific load or distance, load holding and average force, among others. With the Starrett MMS, materials tests such as modulus of elasticity, tensile strength and elongation are also possible.

How accurate are the machines?

Depending on the version, Barrus RED measures with ±0.5% or ±1%, Barrus Grey with up to 0.5%. The 3R SYNTAX 12 and SYNTAX 25 achieve accuracy class 1. Exact values are given in the data sheet of each model.

Which software is available?

The Mark-10 F series is available with EasyMESUR or IntelliMESUR. The Starrett FMD supports the Lx software in the L2Plus and L3 versions, the MMD works with L3.

Single or dual column machine?

The Barrus RED is available as a single column machine from 5 N to 5 kN and as a dual column machine from 5 N to 500 kN. The 3R SYNTAX 12 and SYNTAX 25 are dual column machines with a frame stiffness of 20 kN/mm and 150 kN/mm respectively.

Can DISA calibrate the testing machines?

Yes. Our calibration laboratory in Sarnen is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 (SCS 0083) and calibrates force gauges, sensors and test stands. We calibrate force with an SCS certificate up to 50 kN and with a factory report up to 200 kN. More on the calibration page.
