How to choose an indicator: Mark-10 and Baykon compared

An indicator turns the signal of a force or torque sensor into a readable measured value and passes it on to a PC, controller or printer. Depending on the task, a portable unit for the test lab or a permanently installed terminal for the machine is the better choice.

DISA AG Sarnen supplies the Mark-10 indicators M3I, M5I and M7I as well as the Baykon weighing terminals and the TX20 transmitter. This guide shows which criteria to use. You will find all devices in the category Force/torque indicators.

For Mark-10 the sampling rate is given, for Baykon the conversion rate of the measuring signal. The accuracy of the Mark-10 indicators applies in addition to the accuracy of the sensor. A dash means that the value is not clearly stated on the product page or in the data sheet. We will be happy to provide it on request.

Four selection criteria

1. Sensor and application

  • Mark-10 force and torque sensors: M3I, M5I or M7I
  • Load cells in machines and scales: Baykon weighing terminals
  • Direct connection to a controller: Baykon TX20

2. Measuring rate

  • M3I 2000 Hz, M5I 7000 Hz, M7I 14,000 Hz
  • Baykon up to 1600/s, BX23 and BX25 up to 800/s

3. Accuracy

  • M3I ±0.2 % of full scale, M5I and M7I ±0.1 %, each plus sensor
  • Baykon weighing terminals OIML class III

4. Interfaces and design

  • M3I USB; M5I and M7I also RS-232, Mitutoyo and analog
  • Baykon depending on model RS-232, RS-485, USB, Ethernet and fieldbuses
  • Portable with battery, panel mount, stainless steel IP67 or DIN rail

Plug & Test and calibration

Thanks to Plug & Test, the Mark-10 indicators recognise connected sensors and configure them automatically. Baykon weighing terminals offer eCal, an electronic calibration without test weights. Our calibration laboratory in Sarnen is accredited for force and torque according to ISO/IEC 17025 (SCS 0083).

Frequently asked questions

Which indicator suits Mark-10 sensors?

The Mark-10 indicators M3I, M5I and M7I are designed for use with force and torque sensors. Thanks to Plug & Test, the sensors can be connected quickly and are configured automatically.

What is the difference between the M3I, M5I and M7I?

The M3I measures at 2000 Hz with ±0.2 % of full scale and has a USB interface. The M5I measures at 7000 Hz with ±0.1 %, additionally offers RS-232, Mitutoyo and analog and stores up to 1000 values. The M7I measures at 14,000 Hz, continuously records up to 5000 values and detects breaks as well as first and second peaks.

When is the Baykon TX20 the right choice?

When the measuring signal is to go directly to a controller. The TX20 is mounted on a DIN rail and offers RS-485 and, depending on the version, analog, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, Ethernet TCP/IP or Powerlink.
